THE BIG WHEEL FLOW

Excellent Flow Drill to assist on D-zone breakouts, encourages open pivots, and timing.

- Two (2) groups of players in opposite corners with pucks as shown - 2 players at blue lines as shown to start drill only.- Goalies in both nets.

- On Coach whistle, X1,O1 skate low into respective zones and curl.

- As X1,O1 cross center, X2,O2 skate backwards behind nets - receive pass (off boards) from X3,O3 - pivot and quickly pass to curling X1,O1.

- X1,O1 accelerate for play on net - X2,O2 follow & support puck carriers then curl in opposite zone to accept pass and continue drill.

** Important Points **

1. Pass reciever must curl low and ask for pass each time. Then accelerate for shot on net.
2. Do not allow players in corners to leave too early - only after skater has crossed centre.
3. Encourage communication when passing/receiving.
4. Passer must follow puck carrier to support down ice then curl low to continue drill.
5. Encourage open pivots by pass reciever to keep constant eye contact with passer.

Thanks to Rod MacIntosh for his drill submissions.
