Balloon Relay

For this relay you will need several 8-10 inch balloons and pylons. Set the pylons up between the blue and red line one for each team tell the players that they must race the balloon out around the pylon and back giving it to the next player until they have all gone. The next time tell them to cradle the balloon between their feet instead of kicking it to be more effective, several players may have already learned this by themselves. Stress hat control is important while moving the puck in the game situation.

Variation Do the same relay by using the hands on the ice or in the air helps to teach coordination.

I came up with this idea for a relay after I had tried to teach my team to control the puck with their feet. I found that the players would wood just kick the puck ahead then chase it. By using the balloons you will find that the harder they try to kick it the balloon will circle back, if you gently control it between your feet you can effectively move it down the ice
